kate sessions park
Named after San Diego schoolteacher and chief landscape designer of world-famous Balboa Park , this 79-acre park offers grassy areas perfect for picnics, kite-flying and lounging on a sunny day. Sixty acres have remained undeveloped offering a great opportunity for hikers to explore. Structured amenities include concrete picnic tables, BBQ area, playgrounds, restrooms, walking paths and plenty of parking lots. It is a great oasis of green wild plants in springtime.
Residents surrounding Kate Sessions Park are being innundated with the problems ‘responsible’ drinkers plagued the beach with – drunks urinating, defecating, littering, disturbing the neighborhood, driving away drunk and in general making the Park about as inviting as an obnoxious uncle couch-potato staying for the summer.
“There still is a lot of the same nuisance behavior. We’re still getting a lot of people getting drunk and getting in their cars and leaving the park, which is a serious concern to the surrounding neighbors,” Youngers said.
At its July meeting, Friends of Kate Sessions provided a list of “illegal and nuisance” park activities. This list included glass bottles and trash, public intoxication, underage drinking, public urination, dogs off-leash and uncontrolled, illegal parking, drunk drivers leaving the park, failure to obtain permits, golf carts on the hill, smoking, skateboard ramps blocking walkways and verbal threats from park users.
Here’s some materials from the people who are apparantly helping the problem along:
