  1. Amy Starkassertive says:

Just another blanket law to protect us ALL from ourselves when so many of us are responsible adults and really don’t require a legislative babysitter breathing down our necks.

We should apply stricter penalties/punishments for the ones abusing a free society rather than removing freedom from our society.

My stars, it’s uttlerly ludicrous to me that I am not allowed to have a couple wines on a weekend at the beach after working hard all week. I moved to SD to enjoy the beach in the manner which makes me happy. Sometimes I like a cold frap on the beach and sometimes I like a couple wines – or both. But it should be my choice what I want to consume and my own personal business – unless I am harmful to those around me – which I would never be.

I’m 41 years old and I have never been in trouble for anything and I live a responsible life. Why should my free time be altered due to a bunch of immature or jueuvenile offenders? I have committed no crime.

The offenders’lives should be the only ones affected by their behavior. The rest of us should be left alone to enjoy life in the manner which is of our own chosing.

Why do we continually punish the masses for the crimes of the few?

Thing is, how is this law even going to be inforced? I will still have my chardonnays on the beach. I will be certain, as always, to be responsible and law abiding in my personal transport to/from the beach. Only thing now the law will turn me into a law breaker when I would never have consider violating the law under reasonable conditions.

I won’t be caught – mind you – but it’s still senseless. If someone like me can and will have drinks on the beach – regardless of laws forbidding it – do you really think those who are more trouble than I am (a near mid aged quiet gal who sips a couple while reading a book and sunbathing) won’t bring the drinks there? Or arrive already intoxicated? Grow a clue!

No one under 18 allowed without parental supervision makes more sense than this! Anyone 18-21 can not drink (as if that could be inforced) and all folks on the beach must have ID on them. Immediate removal from the beach for any violations just as it is in a bar. Problem solved and nobody’s rights are violated.

This law is invasive and oppressive – and just down right stupid. What’s next? Ban coffee during morning hours because a few people are uncomfortable with nervous acting or energetic folks?

There is no sound argument against my post because any argument would incorporate exactly what I argue against. Which is oppressive or excessive laws instead of personal responsibilty ruling our culture never allows the individuals of that culture to make the right choices of their own accord and thus never develop personal responsibility.

When will our society and law makers ever grow up and leave those of us who are grown up alone?

  2. John M says:

We do not need an alcohol ban at the beach! We need existing laws and ordinances enforced. Why are existing ordinances and laws not enforced? Is it not already illegal to be drunk in public? Is it not already illegal to drink and drive? Is it not already illegal for minors to posess alcohol? Is it not already illegal to sell alcohol to minors? Why do we need more laws? Enforce the laws already on the books! I like to responsibly enjoy an adult drink on the beach. Why am I being punished? The SafeBeaches.org web site has a list “WHAT WE WANT”. What they really want are the existing laws and ordinances enforced. Here is their list: Minors drinking – Already illegal, Fistfighting – Illegal too, Shouting – Free speech, or disturbing the peace, People exposing themselves – Already illegal, Vomiting – Tuna sandwitch in the sun too long, Hearing people cussing – Free Speech your kids already know these words, Groping – Grow up or close your eyes prude, Demeaning comments toward women – Free speech or too slow for a snappy comeback, Seeing drinking games etc – Turn your head it does not concern you, who put you in charge anyway?, Trash piles up – The beaches need more trashcans and they need to be dumped more often, also, cans are put next to trashcans so that thay can be recycled and sometimes people are just slobs, drinking alcohol or not, but littering is already illeagal too, Large groups taking over areas – Where they there first? If it is an orginized group do they have a permit? Urinating and deficating in public – That is called Indecent exposure – Illegal too, Staggering from the beach – They may or may not be driving, but drunk driving is already illegal, Taunting officials – Sometimes they deserve it sometimes not but that is part of their job and it is also called Free Speach, Explaining things to your children – Grow up, this is part of life, a simple answer is all they need. That person is going to go to jail if he/shee keeps it up, Guess what, there are not enough police, trashcans, bathrooms etc. on busy weekends at the beach. SDPD did not take a pro-active aproach on Labor Day and they were under staffed and under trained. But somehow they were able to get the riot squad there quickly. They wanted an altercation and were ready for one. Our police and officials refuse to enforce the laws and ordinances already on the books.

Ban the Ban and enforce what is already on the books!

Just saw David’s comment to my post and hope he realizes the irony in that the beach is the ONLY place in San Diego one can drink in public..there must be some rational for having alcohol banned at all public parks etc., etc., ..maybe safety for recreating families and quality of life for the surrounding areas? Yes, I am old but will continue the fight for my right to live in peace in my Mission Beach home by fighting against the “right” to abuse alcohol at the beach.
Oh yes – interesting comment from bantheban “If you don’t like it – move!” Guess, what btb- us old fogeys were here FIRST…you move!!
